If there is one takeaway from the Breaking Bad universe, it’s that the line between criminality and respectability is not always stark, and is easily crossed. That’s because the line is itself something of a mirage. Albuquerque is not distinct from the desert; it is layered on top of the desert. The desert cannot be conquered, but with hard work and vigilance it can be made temporarily hospitable.
